Tampa Bay Computer Society Job Description

BBS Sysop (volunteer/appointed)

Primary Duties (actual regular duties performed and their frequency):

  1. Serve on the BBS committee.  This is ongoing.  The BBS committee should consist of all BBS Sysops and any other volunteers recruited to assist in the effort and be delegated various tasks.  The committee should meet at least quarterly to discuss BBS services and coordinate future efforts.
  2. Ensure that the BBS environment is clean and orderly, and maintain the BBS hardware and software in good working condition.  This is ongoing.
  3. Make sure that all BBS hardware and software is properly configured for full functionality to BBS users.  This is ongoing.
  4. Along with other BBS Sysops, maintain full BBS capabilities and availability as close as possible to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  5. Maintain BBS security and member-only access.  Update new TBCS members to full user status as they apply, and remove TBCS members who do not renew.  This is ongoing.
  6. Ensure that all BBS information is kept up-to-date.  This is ongoing.
  7. Take steps to minimize BBS downtime for system events.  Investigate options for eliminating these event downtimes altogether.
  8. Pursue efforts to add new capabilities and features to the BBS.  Investigate software add-ons such as QSO updates, TDBS, etc. that add new functionality for members.  This is ongoing.

Special Activities (any additional duties or jobs performed and their frequency):

  1. Update the Job Description and Procedures for BBS Sysop to keep the TBCS Procedures Manual as up-to-date and complete as possible.  This is done on an ongoing basis, as required.

This is currently just a general outline of the duties of the BBS Sysops, indicating where procedures are applied, but without itemizing the actual details of those procedures.  It is up to the current BBS Sysops to log the actual procedural steps currently being followed to configure and maintain the BBS hardware and software, and update this job description accordingly.
