2010 FACUG Technology Cruise next
February!

BarCampTampaBay 2009, Sep 26 & 27, 9am - 4pm THIS WEEK!
Something exciting will be happening on Saturday & Sunday, Sep 26th &
27th in Tampa (and it's FREE!).
A BarCamp is a
relatively new concept. Computer and Technology enthusiasts will
congregate to enjoy a wide variety of seminars on those 2 days.
The agenda is created on-site at the start of each day. Sessions
range from 10 minutes to 2.5 hours (most are about 45 minutes each).
Since 4 sessions will occur simultaneously, you can almost always find
something you're interested in.
A small sample of topics from last year include: mobile apps, iPhone
apps, Adobe AIR, voice apps, project management, Twitter, etc.
These are the type of devices and applications that will occur on
Saturday.
Sunday will be New Media day. Presentations
last year centered on Twitter, Blogging, Rich Internet Apps, social
media, podcasting, Internet Video, SEO, mobile marketing, RSS, and VoIP.
The event will again take place at the USF School of Business.
I plan attending this one on both days. (I postponed my vacation
so that I could be there). This will be a lot of learning, and you
can't beat the price - did I already mention that it's free?
Here's where to go for more info:
http://barcamptampa2.eventbrite.com/
Note: they have a registration button there, but I have no idea whether
or not it actually works.
I'm going to register at the site.

SIG Changes
My New Media SIG is not going to meet this Saturday because I will be at
the BarCamp in Tampa. I'm also going to change the name of it to
the Social Networking SIG.
The SBI SIG is changing their name to "Growing Your
Online Business". They do much more than support SBI members.
They discuss all phases of building an online business.
Dan Galgano's XO computer SIG is going away.
Since they've only permitted a few of these babies to be sold in this
area, it's hard to find XO users.
Finally, Doc's Place is soon to undergo a name change
also. Chuck Oppermann is going to join forces with me once again.
We haven't decided on a name yet ("Computer Chat" could be in the
running -- that was the name of our cable TV show years ago).
We're also considering "Chuck & Doc's Place" (I don't like the flow of
"Doc & Chuck's Place" as well as the previous one). We'll let you
know when we decide.

Free TimeShare Seminar by Jim Boynton
Wed, Sep 30th, 1-3pm at the Resource Center
After buying a timeshare on St. Pete Beach for $1 on eBay, Jim Boynton
has decided that it is a good time to be buying timeshares on auction
sites. He is going to present a free seminar to explain timeshares,
options, how to buy them, and what to watch out for when looking for
one. If you want to find out if this is for you and if you can
capitalize on it at this time and get some better vacations in the
process then this seminar is for you. There will be no sales
promotions or pressure, just sharing information. This seminar is
open to non members as well. Feel free to bring friends and
neighbors with you if you wish.

Do you have questions about technology?
Several people have
requested a place to ask their computer, Internet, etc. questions.
We have created an email list to help you do just that. If you
subscribe to the list, you will receive roughly 2 to 6 emails a day of
technology questions and answers. Oops! This has rapidly
become very popular. Now we're getting 10 to 15 emails each day.
We have attracted some
skilled technical contributors. We also encourage the
participation of the talented people in our community who can be of help
to the less skilled among us. If you would like to sample some
tech community spirit, just send an email to:
Moderator @ SWFPCSupport.com
with the word "subscribe" in the Subject line. Don't worry, you can remove yourself at any time.

2010 FACUG Technology Cruise
next February!
As of October 22nd, the cruise line may recall all of
FACUG's unbooked cabins in order to sell them to the public at a much
higher price. If you have been considering going, now is the time
to take action.
The Florida Association of Computer User Groups (FACUG)
is going to hold their next spring conference aboard the Norwegian Sky
cruise ship. We will sail from Miami on Friday, February 26, 2010.
We'll be calling on Nassau and Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas, and we'll
return to Miami on Monday, March 1, 2010.
The cruise prices are wonderful: $233.37 per passenger
including taxes, fees, and gratuities (in the cheapest cabins), and the
conference is only $50 for TBCS members and their spouses. We'll
have presentations, programs, vendors, cruise adventure, and fantastic
food and activities. Please go to:
www.facug.org for details and
registration. We also have a wiki that you may use to get more
details, and to meet up with other Cruisers:
