1) General Interest

Do you have questions about technology?

Several people have requested a place to ask their computer, Internet, etc. questions.  We have created an email list to help you do just that.  If you subscribe to the list, you will receive roughly 2 to 6 emails a day of technology questions and answers.

We have attracted some skilled technical contributors.  We also encourage the participation of the talented people in our community who can be of help to the less skilled among us.  If you would like to sample some tech community spirit, just send an email to:
Moderator @ SWFPCSupport.com to subscribe.  Don't worry, you can remove yourself at any time.

Last Week at TBCS
We did something very special last week: we hosted our first ever Apple Macintosh computer SIG.  We have ALWAYS maintained our distance from Macs.  However, it's a changing world.  Many of us are using programs that run on the Internet instead of on our computers -- it doesn't matter what operating system you are using.  Thanks to Virginia Chilcote for starting this SIG.  We recorded it.  Virginia didn't realize we were broadcasting for awhile so the screen goes dark for a few minutes, but the session was VERY useful for Mac newbies.  You may view it here:
http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/2002281

Chuck Oppermann weighed in on Facebook and Twitter last Saturday as a guest speaker at my New Media SIG.  You can watch that here:
http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/2028041

Chuck also spoke with me at Doc's Place last Friday.  This started off as "PC Security", but ended up including how to properly use the Window's Task Manager and Performance Monitor as well as a utility called Autoruns.  It was an excellent session in the opinion of many who attended.  You can read about it on Chuck's Blog:

or you can watch it on UStream:

Our Random Acts of Kindness day on Friday, September 11th

We are opening up our clinic on that day to NON-TBCS members.  If you know someone who needs help with their computer, please encourage them to register and then bring it in.  The registration page, and other items are viewable at our wiki:
http://computer-raok.wikispaces.com

We have flyers for this event at the Resource Center.  If you take one, please post it on a community bulletin board... don't just stuff it in your pocket.

We are interested in donuts, cookies, and fruit early followed by salads, sandwiches, cakes, and casseroles later.  I'm told that if it comes under the general heading of "Food", that we will accept it.  Those who still have their sanity when it comes to food will be in charge.  They don't permit ME to make any decisions in this area.  They showed me a healthy veggie plate one day and had the nerve to refer to it as "Food".  I told them, "That's not Food.  That's what Food eats!"  <grin>

We will supply the sodas and coffee throughout the day.  But if you will help supply any of the above, please send an email to the Club Secretary.

2010 FACUG Technology Cruise/Conference next February!
The Florida Association of Computer User Groups (FACUG) is going to hold their next spring conference aboard the Norwegian Sky cruise ship.  We will sail from Miami on Friday, February 26, 2010.  We'll be calling on Nassau and Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas, and we'll return to Miami on Monday, March 1, 2010.

The cruise prices are wonderful: $233.37 per passenger including taxes, fees, and gratuities (in the cheapest cabins), and the conference is only $50 for TBCS members and their spouses.  We'll have presentations, programs, vendors, cruise adventure, and fantastic food and activities.  Please go to:
www.facug.org for details and registration.  We also have a wiki that you may use to get more details, and to meet up with other Cruisers:
http://facug-cruise.wikispaces.com/
