Please bring your cartridges to the Resource Center or to the Cultural Center the night of the monthly meeting.

We also recycle your cell phones & chargers!
We give them to a group that puts them back in circulation as 911 help for seniors (through county services).  If you donate a cell phone, please remember to bring the accompanying charger.  Please put ALL components in a plastic bag to save confusion as to which parts go to which phone.

In this month's Bits 'n' Bytes, Dale Atchison updates his Monthly Maintenance instructions, Stew Bottorf attempts to breathe new life into an older laptop, and Ira Wilsker describes how to set up that new computer you got for Christmas.

1) General Interest

Open House Last Saturday
We had a great day, and we fixed a bunch of computers.  Thanks to all who came, thanks to all of their friends and family who came, and thanks to all of our volunteers who unselfishly gave of their time in order to make the day a great success.

Upcoming FACUG & APCUG spring conference: March 13, 14, & 15 in Zephyrhills
$60 if postmarked or online by Feb 20, and $65 at the door

FACUG (Florida Association of Computer User Groups) and APCUG (Association of Personal Computer User Groups are pooling their resources and offering a combined Spring Conference.  This will be a totally new experience.  We thought we had a great conference last year with 98% of the participants indicating a strong desire to return.  (I'm making no promises, but last year ALL attendees received a copy of Vista Ultimate - what a neat surprise THAT was.)

While speakers and events are still being finalized, we will be having a greater emphasis on technology.  APCUG will expand our horizons from the State of Florida to inviting user groups from every state in the union. We will have a chance to see new faces, make new friends, experience new ideas and have a fun time to boot.

Our country voted for change this year, we listened and are applying it to our approach to the conference. We are keeping the best of what we had and are changing the rest.  Lupton Caterers will remain as they had a top notch rating last year.

You will be able to register at either www.facug.org or www.apcug.net.

WEDU: Saturday, March 7th, 7-10:30pm
WEDU has asked us to help them raise funds again on a Saturday evening in March.  This is an easy and fun job, AND they feed us pizzas, chips, cookies, and sodas (just what a diabetic crowd needs, eh?).  Seriously, we have a great time, and it's a great way to pay WEDU back for all of the good they bring to our community.  The shows that will be airing that night are:
7-9pm: "Welk Stars Through The Years" (Mary Loy Metzger will be live in the studio), and
9-10:30pm: "Highland Heartbeat".

Please send an email to the Club Secretary if you'd like to join us.  We'll arrange car pools for this junket.
