1) General Interest

Please help get the word out...

Both the 2600 Club and the XO Computer SIG (the next 2 items) have special status in our club for the moment.  You do not have to be a TBCS member to attend either of these events.

The 2600 Club is designed to attract an audience who wants to learn some more advanced material about computers, operating systems, malware, security, the Internet, etc.

The XO Computer SIG is an attempt to make a home for the relatively small number of people in our area who are estimated to have purchased one of them last December.  It could be most helpful if you pasted the following 2 blurbs into an email that you sent on to your more computer literate friends who may be interested.  Thanks for your help.

2600 Club: 7-9pm Friday April 4th - THIS FRIDAY!

This month we'll focus on spyware and viruses. Doc will not only display his "Rogue's Gallery of Spyware", he will perform at least one autopsy on a live virus. Come watch as the virus pulsates... trying to live... just before he dispatches it to the computing netherworld (bit bucket).

The XO Computer SIG - THIS SUNDAY
Sunday, April 6th, 1-3pm

A few months ago I emailed that you could purchase an XO laptop computer for $400.  The One Laptop Per Child project ( www.laptop.org ) would send you a laptop, and they would also give another laptop away to a child in a 3rd-world country.  Several of you wrote to say that you had purchased one.  Now we're guessing that some of you might be interested in forming a user group.  Dan Galgano has volunteered to lead the SIG.

This first meeting will be to see if we can attract enough members for a viable monthly SIG.  It's also possible that the SIG day and time could be changed at this meeting to meet the needs of its members.

Please join Dan if you will.  While an RSVP is NOT required, it would be wonderful if we knew you were coming.  Please email the Club Secretary if you would like to join us.

Note: In order to help get this SIG off the ground, we are temporarily permitting guests (TBCS membership not required to check it out).  Please feel free to invite anyone you know who may have purchased an XO computer.
