2008 FACUG (Florida Association of
Computer User Groups) Spring Conference
Date: Friday-Sunday, March 7-9, 2008
Place: Zephyrhills High School, 6335 12th Street, Zephyrhills, FL 33542
Registration, hotel
information, and more:
http://www.facug.org/ConferenceSpring/conference-s.asp
The TBCS Board has
voted to pay the $50 early-bird registration fee for up to 10 of our
members (1st come; 1st served - send an email to our secretary) to attend.
While several of the roundtables deal with user group issues like
increasing your membership or improving your newsletter design, there will
be plenty of tech sessions of interest.
Your $50 includes several meals - with keynote speakers
from the computer industry. Join us for 2 days and 1 night to hang
out with members of other computer user groups from around the state of
Florida.
The $50 early bird
registration fee is good if postmarked by February 10th. Then it goes to
$60 if postmarked by February 20th. You have the option to use
PayPal where you can register one or more attendees with a single PayPal
transaction for the total amount.
Since this year's
conference is being held in Zephyrhills, it's feasible to do a 1.5 hour
commute. If you prefer to get lodging, you should make your
reservations ASAP.
-----
Town Meeting: Wednesday, Jan 23rd,
7-9pm at the Resource Center
From
time-to-time, we hold town meetings. It gives us a chance to get
your feedback about our club, and it's also a chance for us to let you
know about the issues and policies that we feel are important. All
are invited to show up and share your opinions.
-----
Open House & RAK: Saturday, March
15th, at the Resource Center
We received such a positive response from our members
over the last Open House that we've decided to do it again. Not only
is it a great opportunity to bring your friends to our facility, but you
get to see how much fun TBCS members are also.
As always, we will wine you and dine you and fix
computers at our Random Acts of Kindness Computer Repair Clinic.
However, you should be aware of a change in our clinic that day.
Sorry, but this time our clinic will only be open to non-members.
TBCS members can get their computers repaired for free on Wednesdays &
Fridays of every week. We want to give non-members a chance to use
our clinic at an RAK event.

Audio/Video Studio NEWS!
The Board has reconsidered the $2.50 per hour charge for the use of our
A/V Studio. It is now FREE! Sure we would appreciate
your donations - after all, it has cost us several thousand dollars to
create it, and we hope to continue upgrading it.
You MUST be scheduled in order to use the studio. We require some
degree of competency with our equipment before we turn you loose on it.
We have several people who will donate their time towards helping
familiarizing you with the equipment.
Currently, the services that we offer are conversion to digital of the
following:
1. Vinyl records
2. Cassette tapes
3. 35mm slides
4. VHS tapes to DVD
5. Editing of video & VHS tapes
Sorry, but we don't do any super 8 or 16mm film conversions. I'm
trying to find a reliable and affordable vendor for those. If you
know of anyone, please email me.
