1) General Interest

Doc had a heart attack last week.

Last Tuesday, I ended up back in the hospital, and received a couple of new stents in my ticker.  I'm home and doing great - although sleeping a lot.  As soon as I finish this bulletin I'm headed back to work this morning.

I want to thank all of you who sent good wishes my way.  I started out to respond to every email that people sent, but it's just not possible.  I came home to several hundred email messages, and after answering many, I still have hundreds of messages in my Inbox.  I have some things I want to accomplish before the end of the year so I'm going to concentrate on getting them done instead of sending out "bread and butter" messages.  I also don't have the time to watch all of the videos and PowerPoint slideshows that people have sent.  It's just information overload at the moment.

SO, please forgive me for giving excuses and a collective "Thank You", but I really do thank you all for your many kindnesses and good wishes.

$50 Laptop Fiasco!

Did this effort ever go awry.  Last week I advertised that June Hollister had a bunch of used laptop computers available.  She was selling them "as is" for $50 each.  Well, the response was very large - she could have sold dozens of them.  However, some people misinterpreted what "as is" means.  It quickly became clear that some people were planning on buying them, and then bringing them into our repair clinic to let Frank and his crew overhaul them.

So, let me be a little clearer on this deal: These laptops are NOT eligible for repair from our clinic.  They are Windows 98 (NOT Second Edition) computers.  It would require better than 6 hours per machine to bring them up to our standards, and that we cannot do.  The laptops have a very distinctive look, so please don't even think of trying to pull a fast one on our crew.

These laptops are suitable for basic computing.  The batteries for ALL of them should be long dead.  Many have network cards, but you will need to be savvy enough to download the drivers and configure the cards on your own.

If you have understood all of the above, and you are still interested, send an email to to the Club Secretary and we'll put you in touch with June.
