Sullivan's New Hands-On Beginners Classes - STARTS NEXT WEEK
~~~ and
more
Our Open House is this
Saturday, October 27th, 9am-2pm
All sorts of people are volunteering to help make it quite a day.
What activities are going to take place, you might ask? Here's a
partial list:
 | We're drawing for $100 again - you'll need to
be there to sign up, but not to win. |
 | Demos of our new Audio/Visual Studio. |
 | Videos every hour on the hour: the best of "Fun
Stuff from the Internet" |
 | Many of our SIG Leaders and Instructors are going to
give short previews of what they teach and how they teach it. |
 | Brenda Leong & Ron Vagnier will give hands on
computer training in our computer lab. Just ask them to show you. |
 | Free refreshments throughout the day. |
While all of the above
activities are taking place, our computer repair crew will be slaving away
fixing computers.
The event is open to everyone. Please bring your friends
and neighbors.
If you would like to volunteer (or if you have questions), please send an email to the Club Secretary.
RAK Computer Clinic at the Open House
is FULL. We cannot accept any more reservations.
Socrates Cafe - THIS WEDNESDAY
Wednesday, October 24th, 7-9pm at the Resource Center
Join our discussion
group and share your viewpoint! Civil, thoughtful discourse is our
objective. No registration is required for this
one (and yes, it's free). The group will select one of the following questions
to discuss:
1. What does it mean
to be successful?
2. What is logic and how can it be applied to daily life?
3. What is the relationship between science and religion?
4. How is technology affecting our everyday lives?
5. Are we a feel-good society unable to accept unpleasant realities?
6. Does jealousy create loneliness?
If you are intrigued enough to take a closer look:
(click on the Socrates Cafe link in the 1st paragraph)
This event is open to non-members as well as members.
Feel free to invite your friends.
Volunteers
We miss our drawings at the monthly meetings. We
would like to get them going again, but we need someone to volunteer for
the job. It's a big job because you are responsible for schlepping
the prizes from your home to the Largo Cultural Center and back each month.
Please send an
email to the Club Secretary if
you are interested in taking it over.
October 29th, 10am-1pm $15
This is a hands-on class. You MUST register in advance.
Photo Story 3 is the FREE software that comes from Microsoft that
helps you to build movies from your photos. Jan will show you how to put
YOUR photos together with narration and/or music to amaze and amuse your
friends. Not only can you get very professional looking results, but
the software is really very easy to use.
Microsoft Movie Maker by Jan McNulty
Monday, November 5th,
10am
- 1pm $15
(3 hours with 2 breaks)
This is NOT a hands on class.
You MUST register for this class.
Windows Movie Maker is a free download (for WinXP users) from
Microsoft. It's an excellent tool for editing your home movie clips
together and adding in narration and music. Jan will show how to
create a movie from the very beginning. We have Microsoft Movie
Maker on one of our A/V Lab computers so you can start learning how to use
that software here.
June Hollister's Classes are done for now. June's going to take
some time off. We'll let you know when she starts teaching them
again.
Jacinthe Dixon videotaped all of June's classes.
They are shot guerilla style, and are raw, unedited footage.
Jacinthe will burn copies of any class for $10 (and she'll discount the
price if you buy them in groups of 4 or more).
I assure you this is not a profit item for the club.
This is being done as a courtesy for those who have requested them.
If you are
interested, please send an email to the
Club Secretary.
