Monthly Meeting this week: eBay by Jim
Boynton
Tuesday, Sep 18th, 6:45 - 7:45, at the Largo Cultural Center
eBay has become the world's largest marketplace.
If you are interested in online commerce, you should be interested in this
presentation. TBCS Vice-President Jim Boynton will show how to
research and buy products on eBay. Plus he'll stress the need for
common sense and security for ALL purchases online. Jim is leader of
our eBay SIG and also teaches our eBay classes.
I am also hoping to get Dale Atchison to preview the CDs
he's been producing for us to use as a fund-raiser. You are going to
LOVE some of the clips that we have collected. Some of them created
by our own members.
-----
Volunteers
I asked for several volunteers last week, and I got 'em
- I got MORE than I asked for. What a pleasant surprise. I
tried to respond to all who volunteered for the Publicity Luncheon, but
there were too many volunteers to review the CDs. Sorry, but I don't
even have the CDs in my possession yet. I'll get them later this
week, and contact only the ones I've selected. I appreciate your
response and don't want to treat you so cavalierly, but I assure you it's
a time issue. I thank all of you for your willingness to step up to
the plate.
I also want to thank all of the people who showed up at
the Board of Directors meeting last Wednesday night. It was the
largest board meeting we have ever had. Judy Schnepper and Ed Watzel
represented our new Publicity Committee. They have been visiting
local libraries to make contacts at each library as well as to distribute
TBCS advertising materials (in the future they'll be able to "mail it
in").
Most of the extra members were there to help us decide
how we are going to make our new A/V Lab available to our membership.
It quickly became evident that there are a LOT of decisions to be made.
Mike Rosenthal and Lynne Robertson are constructing a survey so that our
membership can weigh in with their thoughts about how this new resource can
be used. There's no way that we can just open up the lab without
some rules of operation in place. My thanks for those who
contributed to this first discussion. I assure you that it will be a
topic at EVERY board meeting in the near future.

Online Business Roundtable and
Marketing updates
We had a great turnout for the Online Business
Roundtable last week. This was Tom Kiehl's idea, and it worked so
well that I expect we'll do another one in a couple of months.
We also had an awesome turnout for June Hollister's
Marketing class that started last Friday night (and will continue for the
next 3 Fridays). I made another goof that I need to apologize for.
I forgot to mention that, while the class is FREE this time around, there
is a $5 charge for the many handouts that June provides. This is
simply so that she doesn't have to pay for all the paper and ink out of
her own pocket.
Most of the attendees expected the charge, but there
were a couple of new people who were unprepared for it. I'm so sorry
that I didn't catch you in time. Once I was aware, I immediately
went to the parking lot, but couldn't catch you in time to stop you from
leaving. I assure you that we would have permitted you to stay for
the evening as our guests without charge. My apologies for any
embarrassment and for any inconvenience.
Let me say here that June has an open-ended invitation
for people to partake of one of her classes as her guest for free.
We'll nail you with any charges after she hooks you on how informative her
sessions are <grin>.
I'm outta time, and I must run. Have a great week
everyone!
