New Digital Scrapbooking SIG Coming
to TBCS!
Jan McNulty is going to lead this group starting
in September. The SIG will meet on the 1st Thursday of
each month from 10am 'til noon (at the Resource Center of course).
Jan plans on exploring some of the different scrapbooking software
available. I expect we'll have a lot of interest for this group.
I'll keep you posted as time draws near.
How about a Linux SIG also?
Linux has not fared too well recently in the home markets.
While Linux penetration into the business sector still seems healthy,
other user groups have shut down their Linux SIGs due to lack of
participation. Indeed, it sounds likely that the Tampa Bay area
Linux group (SLUG) may also close down soon.
I hate to see this happen. I think it's important that there are
low-cost alternatives to Microsoft products available. We used to
have an excellent Linux SIG at TBCS. If SLUG does go away, I believe
I have a volunteer to give it another try at TBCS.
There are 2 major advantages to using Linux: cost & security.
Linux is free and there are almost no viruses that attack it. The
major drawback to Linux is that your neighbor can't help you out when
you're having a problem with it. However, maybe your neighbors at
TBCS will be able to. Once again, I'll keep you posted if we can
make this happen.

June Hollister's Online Business
Course is available on CDs
The following sessions are now available:
Online Business Basics:
Week #1: Blogging & Keywords
Week #2: Understanding the Process
Week #3: Construction of Web Site
Week #4: PDF, Google Page, My Space
Online Business Advanced:
Week #1: Monetization Models & Master Keyword Research
That's all that are available at the moment. The
cost for a cd of any week is $10. If someone is interested in
purchasing all 4 weeks of the Basics the charge is $35.
I assure you that this is being done as a courtesy.
These are not a profit item. Jacinthe Dixon videoed the
sessions and then converted them to the .WMV format so they'll play on
most any computer. She will be making them upon request. While
she will make a few dollars on each, it will not come close to
recompensing her for her time and effort. She gets to keep the
money. Neither June nor the club will take anything -- we're just
appreciative that she is willing to do this for those who need the
material.
Please order through
the Club Secretary.
Just tell us which week(s) you want. If you need them soon, you
should order right away because Jacinthe is soon to go on an extended
vacation.

Short Takes
Several people have responded to my request for
resources to return 10 computers to active status. Thanks TONS.
Our members are willing to help out. I'll let you know how the
project progresses. I'll try to respond asap to those who wrote, but
I'm going to run behind on email today.
Our members are also willing to help out at the
Resource Center. Since the Town Hall meeting I held a few weeks ago,
I see that our members have been pitching in and helping us to keep the
Resource Center presentable. Thanks to all of you for helping out.
When we signed the new lease to increase our
office space, we were given the impression that the contractor just
couldn't wait to get started... <grin> I bet you can guess, can't
you? We haven't heard from 'em since. Hopefully, I'll have
news on the status of our new digital editing bays sometime soon.
In September, we'll kickoff Socrates Cafe, plus
we'll have a grand opening for our new editing bays - along with a Random
Acts of Kindness repair fest. When we firm up the dates, I'll let
you know.
I have a new FREE resource to announce, but it's
gonna hafta wait until next week because I am oughta here...
