1) General Interest
Town Hall Meeting
Last Week...
Computer Autopsy, Wednesday, July 18th,
10am 'til noon
June Hollister's Online Business Class is FREE next time around!

Town Hall Meeting Last Week...
Wow! Thanks to all who showed up. We
had a great turnout, lots of refreshments, and we even viewed a couple of
videos. I also want to thank those who stepped forward to volunteer
their services. Current TBCS volunteers welcome some more to join
the team, and help shoulder the load. We'll do our best to make good
use of your time and efforts.
Our club continues to change as our world and our
members change. We discussed some of those changes, and how we plan
on responding to them. I feel certain that something called "Web
2.0" is a fundamental shift in how we will use our computers and the
Internet in the coming years. Therefore, I'm going to do my best to
see that Web 2.0 sites and technologies are discussed and explored from
now on. Hey, we may be looking at Web 3.0 sites in the very near
future. (What? You haven't yet heard of Web 2.0? Just
Google it, and you will quickly see that there's a ton of buzz about it.
We will help you sort out some of the options.)
I also want to share the results of a survey that we
passed out at the end of the evening. We wanted to find out if there
was sufficient interest in our club to set up workstations that members
can use for converting vinyl records, cassette tapes, slides, filmstrips,
etc. to digital formats, as well as getting the software necessary to edit
these materials once they've been converted. The results were
overwhelmingly positive. A substantial portion of our members will
want to use these services if we can provide them.
This initiative will be an expensive proposition because
it would require increasing the amount of office space that we lease, and
we'll have to buy both equipment and software. We'll start doing the
research to see if we can make it all happen.

Computer Autopsy, Wednesday, July
18th, 10am 'til noon
Roger Leer is going to disassemble a PC
on that day. He'll gut it, clean it, filet it, and then re-assemble.
He'll identify the internal parts, discuss functions, and provide general
information about how a PC works, how to make it run better, and how to
make it last longer for you. Come on out and see what's inside one
of those rascals.

June Hollister's Online Business Class is FREE next time around!
5 Friday nights starting July 20th from 7 - 9 PM
Weeel, almost free... no more $40 per person.
As June's students all know, she provides a ton of handouts. Total
charge for the class is now $5 per person to defray the costs of
printing handouts and burning CDs. This will take place for her next
Online Business - Advanced class that will start on Friday night,
July 20th from 7 to 9pm.
June has new surprises in store - the Internet is a
pretty dynamic place. We're also going to include a little more
of the mechanics of editing blogs and websites. We realize that
sometimes people need to SEE it accomplished for them to learn it.
It is imperative that you register in advance for this
one. It's possible that we could end up having to limit the class
size. Please make sure to send an email to the Club Secretary
so that you can be included.
