Thank You, Thank You, Thank You...
I had another one of those annoying birthdays on
Saturday. I turned 49 oooops 59 years old (there has been some
memory damage). <grin> I wanted to thank all of the people who
contributed to giving me a $100 toward an iPod. It was quite
unexpected, and I am truly touched by your kindness. Thanks so much
to all of you.

"Basic Windows with Doc" starts this
Tuesday afternoon...
from 1 'til 3pm at the Resource Center. If you are still unsure of
your Windows fundamental skills, please join us for this session.
Let me try to fill in those gaps in your computer education.

WEDU
Pledge Drive
Monday, June 4, 7-10 PM in Tampa: 1300 N Boulevard, Tampa 33607
We're going to
take a crew of 12 volunteers to WEDU's studio to take incoming phone
pledges during their pledge drive. The first hour is orientation and
food (pizza, drinks, & chips) followed by 2 hours of answering the phones.
We had a great time doing this last year. The food
is good, we get to see how a TV show is produced, and we raised over
$10,000 for WEDU. They have since built a new studio, and they have
computerized the pledge system. All we have to do is to type the
pledge info into the computers that they will provide - should be a walk
in the park for us.
Please come out and join us for this event. It's a
lot of fun for a good cause. The station is easy to find, has a
large parking lot (with security), and we'll set up a car pool for those
who don't want to drive.
If you are interested in
joining us, please send an email to the
Club Secretary.

"Digital Scrapbooking" with Bill Smith is coming (next week)
Bill Smith
visited our Resource Center last September with a free seminar on digital
photo editing. Our audience enjoyed his presentation so much that
some of our members followed him to a digital scrapbooking presentation
that he did elsewhere. After they saw him do that one, they asked me
to get him to repeat it for our monthly meeting at the Largo Cultural
Center. So, he'll be joining us next Tuesday night.
Digital scrapbooking is
one of the “hot” new trends that is an outgrowth of digital photography
and computer digital editing. The results are colorful, often
artistic, and yet don’t require creative training or an art education.
Digital scrapbooking can mimic the look of traditional scrapbooking but
can go much further with effects that are only possible with the computer.
In his one hour
seminar, Bill will describe the types of digital scrapbooking effects.
He will also show how to create effects such as tags, backgrounds, and
patterns. Bill will include reference materials on the best digital
scrapbooking web sites, downloading digital scrapbooking embellishments
and how to save money on art effects.

My Apologies to
Phil Sullivan's Basic Windows class...
I
inadvertently left the following text in Phil's entry last week:
"Not meeting this week (Good Friday)." I found the mistake,
and quickly fixed the website, but I didn't bother sending out a 2nd email
to correct it because I figured that almost everyone would realized that
Good Friday had already occurred a couple of weeks ago, and they
would ignore the bogus entry. I couldn't have been any more wrong.
Only 2 people showed up last Friday. My apologies to Phil and all.
Next time I'm email the correction.
