Dell is Returning Windows XP!

Dell announced last week that they are returning Windows XP to their consumer and home-office PC lines.  You will have your choice between WinXP and Vista when you order a Dell computer.  They are responding to the message that some people as well as some business do not want to upgrade to the new operating system at this time.

My only concern in this change is that you don't purchase a machine running Windows Vista Home Basic.  I would definitely advise using one of the more robust versions.  See Vista - Choose an Edition:

Motaz is going to start back at the beginning...

Motaz is the leader of our Investment SIG.  He's going to get back to basics starting at his next meeting (May 2nd).  He's also going to aim for spending half his time on investing and half on spreadsheet skills.  Join this popular SIG that meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 7 to 9 pm.

2) TBCS Classes

Photo Story 3 (Hands-On) by Jan McNulty
4 hours (2 two-hour sessions) 10am - noon   $20
2 Mondays: 4/30 & 5/7  -  You MUST register for this class.

Photo Story 3 is the FREE software that comes from Microsoft that helps you to build movies from your photos.  We had a Photo Story 3 contest several months ago.  Many of you asked afterwards if we would have classes again.  Photo Story software helps you to build photo albums with transitions, movement, narration, and music.  Not only can you get very professional looking results, but the software is really very easy to use.

3) SIG Stuff

Our SIGs (Special Interest Groups) all meet at our Resource Center
(map: http://www.tampa-bay.org/maps.htm).
All of our SIGs are free to our members.

SIGs are a great place to get more personalized attention, and get your questions answered. The following SIGs will meet this week:

Monday, April 23, 7-9pm
Publishing Software SIG. Led by Stacy Lloyd

Adobe Creative Suite 3 is out and available.  I attended an intro program at the Adobe InDesign SIG in Tampa recently.  Unfortunately, I do not have CS3 to show, but I can give a short report on what I witnessed about the InDesign portion of CS3.  I did get a little info on the PhotoShop portion as well as the seven various CS3 groups of Adobe programs.  After our Q & A portion of the meeting, we will continue with the excellent instructional video for InDesign.

Tuesday, April 24, 1-3pm
