Windows DLL Problem

Did you start having some computer problems this past week?  Did you start receiving the following error message:
"The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL C:\Windows\System32\Hhctrl.ocx occupied an address range reserved for Windows system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL."

You will find the fix at my blog:

3) SIG Stuff

Our SIGs (Special Interest Groups) all meet at our Resource Center
(map: http://www.tampa-bay.org/maps.htm).
All of our SIGs are free to our members.

SIGs are a great place to get more personalized attention, and get your questions answered. The following SIGs will meet this week:

Monday, April 9, 1-3pm
Internet SIG. Led by Roger Leer
This month we will be covering various types of video and audio access.  I will demonstrate how to transfer VCR tapes to your computer, and then burn the videos to DVDs and/or CDs.  I have several inexpensive devices that we will cover.  We can discuss which methods you like best, and then we can devote future sessions to your favorites.  We will explore more free movie, music, video, and software download sites.  Bring a blank CD, DVD and /or flash card or memory card if you want your own copy.
Roger

Monday, April 9, 7-9pm
Photoshop SIG. Led by Stan Ashbrook
We’ll divide our time between looking at the Library Module in Lightroom 1.0, and some things in Photoshop CS3 that you can’t do in Lightroom.  Last month we took a broad look at Lightroom and in this and forthcoming SIGs we’ll look at the various modules in more detail as well as looking into the new Photoshop CS3 features.

Help for the Homeless
There are 49 new overnight beds in Pinellas County:  HEP (25), Turning Point (24), and Center of Hope (40).  These beds are going empty on some nights.  Please pass this info on to anyone who can use it.

Bicycle Contest
Hillsborough & Pinellas County residents are invited to enter ‘Words for Wheels,’ an essay-based bike giveaway. To enter, participants should submit a 100-word essay detailing how winning a bike would change their life. Two winning entries will be selected, and the winning authors will each receive a Trek 820 bike (retail $259), courtesy of Carrollwood Bicycle Emporium and Oliver’s Cycle Sports:

Do you know someone with a rental property?
The following message is written by a feller named Mike Fox who spends a lot of his time trying to help the homeless.  Please email the Club Secretary if you care to help out.

I have gotten to know several homeless folks in my volunteer work with tent city who have $500-$550 rent vouchers guaranteed by the county but are having difficulty finding rental properties that will work with them.

One example: David.  He's a 37 year old man with Tourette's syndrome and a diagnosed schizophrenic who has been living on the streets for years.  He is not violent, has no criminal record, nor does he drink or use any non-prescription mood modifiers, with the exception of nicotine and caffeine.  He currently receives NO benefits from Social Security (I have him in the application process) and while he has made attempts at finding day labor, these have proven fruitless.  The medication that works best for him -- Abilify -- is $400 PER MONTH if purchased at Walgreens, and the county medical card does not cover it.

If you own a property that is currently vacant, and would be willing to rent to folks in serious need, please let me know.  Most of us have had a family member of friend in similar circumstances as these folks, and it was family who ended up providing the help.  Well, in most cases, these folks don't have that option.  They have no family support, and governmental solutions are lacking.  It's up to us.  If you have the heart to help a stranger in need, please contact me, Mike Fox.
