1) General Interest

Goings on this week at the TBCS Hacienda...

Tuesday night: We are in the midst of a re-design of our website.  Several of our HTML gurus will be at the Internet Development SIG this week to help us out.  If you are interested in web design, you're bound to hear some useful info.

Wednesday night: Our Board of Director's meetings are always open to our members.  Won't you join us and see if we have a task that you might want to volunteer for.  We have some nifty ideas to implement if we get the people-power to make 'em happen.

Thursday: Our Random Acts of Kindness crew will be at the Palm Harbor Library fixing computers for the general public.  Drop by, and say, "Hi".  Sorry, but we are oversubscribed and unable to take any more registrations.

-----

Thanks to sooo many volunteers!

Last week I thanked the volunteers who offered to drive to Tampa and pick up some computers for us.  This week I would also like to thank those who so generously donate coffee, napkins, paper towels, and snacks.

There's no question that the affections of our clinic crew can be purchased with food and beverage.  Sometimes I toss raw meat into the clinic, slam and lock the door, and then listen to the growling and snarling that follows.  <grin>  Our crew especially appreciates the snacks.

Thanks, once again, to all the donors -- and that includes the donors who contribute cold, hard cash to our efforts.  We try to use your hard-earned dollars carefully.

2) TBCS Classes

Internet Online Business by June Hollister
June's online business course will be taught as three 4-week sessions (a total of 12 weeks).  The "Basic" session is partially over already, but the other two 4-week sessions will each cost $40.

Advanced: March 2, 9, 16, & 23
Marketing: March 30, April 6, 13, & 20

-----

Photo Story 3 (Hands-On) by Jan McNulty
4 hours (2 two-hour sessions) 10am - noon   $20
2nd class added 2/19 & 2/26 10-noon.  You MUST register for this class.
Photo Story 3 is the FREE software that comes from Microsoft that helps you to build movies from your photos.  We had a Photo Story 3 contest several months ago.  Many of you asked afterwards if we would have classes again.  Photo Story software helps you to build photo albums with transitions, movement, narration, and music.  Not only can you get very professional looking results, but the software is really very easy to use.

-----

Announcing 4 NEW classes by Jim Boynton.
All 4 will take place on Wednesday afternoons.  Each class is 2 hours long, and each class costs $10.  None of them are "Hands-On" (exception: part of the Picasa class WILL include some hands-on instruction).  You must register for any of them:

Feb 14  1-3pm   Backup
Feb 21  1-3pm   Digital Camera

3) SIG Stuff

Our SIGs (Special Interest Groups) all meet at our Resource Center

Internet SIG. Led by Roger Leer
This month we'll try some of your favorite searches using a few different search engines listed in Reference Desk: www.refdesk.com.  I would also like to try a few searches in at least one of the subscription data bases provided FREE to Pinellas County Library members.  Please bring your library card and a favorite search or two.  I particularly like Reference USA, a high-quality subscription data base.  If you have any questions, bring them.  Also, I've been experimenting with Vista Ultimate, the final release which is substantially different from the Beta that we were using before.
Roger
