Monthly Meeting

We had over 200 people attend our November meeting last Tuesday for Microsoft's "First Look at Office 2003."  Julie Mavencamp delivered a great presentation, AND she also helped give away about $3000 worth of software and hardware.  We greatly appreciate Microsoft's largesse.

TBCS member in the newspaper

One of our newest members, Michelle Marissa, was featured in an article by Dave Gussow in last Monday's St. Petersburg Times.  The article, titled "Notebook nirvana", appeared in their Computer Buyer's Guide that is published once a year in the business section.  The article (including Michelle's picture) is available online at:

Anti-Spam Bill Passed by House on Saturday

Congress moved closer to attempting to control spam on by passing legislation similar to what the Senate passed last month.  It is hoped that they will resolve differences before both houses go home for the year.  Potentially, spammers could receive up to 5 years in prison for violations.  Since most spam these days comes from out of the country, it will be interesting to see if the bill will be effective.  However, at least it's a start.  Google: house spam for more info.

Cell Phone Number Portability

A new federal law goes into affect on Monday that permits customers in the nation's 100 largest urban areas to change their mobile phone service to a different service provider, and still keep the same phone number.  It is hoped that this legislation will spur carriers to improve service.  Google: "cell phone" portability for more info.
